My name is Kim, and I'm doing research for the Greenwood Genetic Center in Greenwood, SC for this interim at Wofford College. This blog is to record my daily activities and progress in my research. I will be working on an X-Linked Mental Retardation gene that is associated with Wilson-Turner syndrome. Most of my work will be screening, which is what I did this past summer when I held an internship at the GGC. I'll be blogging quite a bit about PCR, bioinfomatics, sequencing, and all that good stuff! You'll also read about my weekly trips to deliver PCR products to Greenwood, since I'll be doing most of the bench work in Wofford labs. If I complete the screening process on all the families considered for this gene mutation, I'll also get to help create plasmid constructs for a separate gene.
I'm very excited and can't wait to start my research!
(Special thanks to Charles Schwartz and Melanie May at the GGC)
